Balsam Fir
This beautiful evergreen is one of the most recognizable trees in Ontario. It has a reputation as a popular Christmas tree choice, largely because of its wonderful scent and good needle retention. The Balsam Fir is a slower growing native tree, and a beautiful, stately feature on any Ontario property.
The tree will produce barrel-shaped cones that are 4 to 10 centimeters long. Its needles are 2 to 4 centimetres long and typically a dark, and shiny green.
Balsam Fir trees will do best in a somewhat sheltered area, where they can have some protection against extremely high winds.
