Magnolia, Black Lily (Container)
A spectacular specimen plant grown for its spring flower display, the Black Lily Magnolia 'Magnolia liliflora Nigra' is simply stunning.
In the early spring, the Black Lily Magnolia produces large cup-shaped, dark purple flowers with a beautiful pale pink/white on the inside. While the main flowering period is May and June, it can produce these flowers sporadically all summer long - with some gardeners reporting blooms in the fall months!
Black Lily Magnolia is a wonderful choice for a small garden. It is a compact, deciduous tree that will produce flowers at an earlier age than most other magnolias. When it comes to planting, it should be placed in a sunny or semi-shaded location that is semi-sheltered. It does best placed in a location devoid of strong winds. It is also advisable to avoid planting right next to a house and to avoid southern exposures where the buds may open too early in spring. Ideal soil conditions are fertile, moist, well-draining neutral to acidic. In most cases, the Black Lily Magnolia will reach 8-12 feet tall with a similar spread at full maturity.
If you are seeking a specimen shrub that is sure to catch the eye, look no further than the Black Lily Magnolia.
