The rich pink blossom contrasts well with the emerging purple leaves which turn to dark green in the summer and purple in the autumn.  Small purple fruit remains long after leaves have fallen,  attracting various birds in for a feed - ex. Waxwings, Robins, Cardinals and Grosbeaks, to name a few.
