Tree Fundraiser COVID-19 Update | April 6, 2020

Greetings Home Hospice Tree Supporters,

We hope this message find you and your loved ones in good health and spirits.

By now, many of you might be wondering what is happening with the tree order that typically arrives in Almonte by late-April.

The good news is that the commercial nursery that grows and ships the trees was able to remain open under the Ontario essential workplaces order. However, unlike a typical spring where the nursery staff numbers in the hundreds, this year they are operating with a skeleton crew.

What does this mean for the Home Hospice tree order?

The nursery has been operating for 41 years and has seen its share of seasonal hurdles. The team is accustomed to being highly adaptive and have already put special plans into action.

As of March 30, 2020, shrubs and trees are being dug daily. They are then graded, bundled and placed into a long-term cold storage environment to maintain dormancy. The nursery plans to operate this cold storage until at least the end of June. Please rest assured that even if deliveries are delayed, the trees will still be "sleeping".

When we receive more information about our order status and the shipping plans, we will send another update. In the interim, should you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us at
trees@hhnl.ca

May you stay safe and be well.
